Positive Solutions
If classroom sex education and bishop mandated safe environment programs are harmful, then what is the substitute?
By now the reader must know the answer. Is the alternative to CSE “Abstinence Based Sex Education? “NO! NO! NO!
These well intentioned programs still desensitize the kids, still break down their natural modesty, still are subject to indescriminate questions and answers, still do not respect the dignity of the subject and the student, and most often associate sex with problems, disease, and death, rather than love, marriage, and babies. Veil re-directs the reader to the previous Veil pages if not already read: The Proper Role of the Catholic School in Education for Chaste Love.
Also of course, there is the prayer section of Veil – and the conviction that if the family is living a rich prayer life, the children know that they have all the spiritual help they need to grow in the virtue of purity and to resist temptation.
Moreover, on the site are some wonderful lectures, church encyclicals and documents about chastity, and family life- which are all available for the reader to use. (But not sell!) A parent, or teacher in tune with the families, can use these rich writings to foster a love of purity and marriage and family life, and also to foster religious vocations. This is what is meant by teaching the whole, integrated Catholic Faith- rather than singling out one aspect. (Bill Marra Jr. uses the analogy of the garden- not a lonely flower- the virtue of chastity supported by all the virtues…)
Beyond this commentary, Veil of iInnocence is in the process of identifying good books for a parents to recommend for their children and young adults.
