Asking for Help Again

Fall 1990

When my son, Tim, was assigned “sex education” in public school, I sought help from Cardinal Law.

December 3, 1990

Dear Cardinal Law,

At Father McCabe’s funeral, you indicated an interest in the problems I’ve encountered with sex education in our Archdiocese. Enclosed are three items – a letter, an address, and a critique which I have written concerning that subject.

As you can see, my writings call for a compete restudy of issues relating to sexuality education – of what constitutes “positive and prudent,” given these spiritually damaging times.

In terms of the Parents’ Petition and my Address to the School Committee, as a parent, my “objection case,” and that of others’, would be made stronger by a pastoral letter from you condemning public classroom sex instruction.

If you would like to discuss this, I can, of course, talk with you at your convenience.

It was good to see you and Father Bill last week, even though it was sad to bid goodbye to Gile’s Mom. Take care.

Love,

Alice Ann
